Where exactly is Malawi?

Geography classes were a long time ago and Malawi,  being a small African country that usually stays out of the news, its location may not always be known..
So, here’s a map to help.

Malawi is in the Southern Hemisphere, between the Equator and the Tropic.  It’s West of Mozambique, South of Tanzania and East of Zambia, at about the same latitude as the top of Madagascar.
So, now you know where we will be moving.  If you want to see the exact location of our new neighborhood, wait until we are in country and we will pinpoint the location of our house!

Ouch! Shots!

In less than a week, we will fly out of here en route to Lilongwe.  Ever since we’ve accepted the jobs at the London Search Fair, we’ve known that moving to Malawi was going to be an adventure, much more so than moving to Riyadh, two years ago!

Since late March, we have been getting the necessary vaccinations in order to protect ourselves.  So, we are now immune to Typhoid, Rabies, Tetanus, Hepatitis A and B (kids already had those and did not need them again) and Yellow Fever.

Yeap, that’s a whole bunch of shots!  But we’d rather be safe than sorry…  The only thing I wish we could get a shot for is Malaria, but that doesn’t exit!   Taking anti-malaria meds for two years straight is not an option, so we are going to have to be extremely careful and protect ourselves against mosquito bites, by wearing long pants and long shirts, sleeping under a mosquito net and spraying ourselves with DEET!  Let’s cross our fingers!
